I created the screenshot above so I could remember the 2nd of the 4 Agreements which, to me, is one of the hardest to practice.
The Four Agreements, developed by don Miguel Ruiz, gives four principles we can put into practice in order to create love and happiness in our life. I’ve been practicing the second agreement with some success, but it’s a lot like mindfulness in that you have to constantly reminded yourself to practice it every time an opportunity arises.
Some practitioners say adopting and committing to these agreements is simple. I can tell you from experience it’s worth the effort, but it’s a lot harder than it sounds. Actually living and keeping these Four Agreements can be one of the hardest things you will ever do. It can also be one of the most life changing things you will ever do.
The Second Agreement Advises Us to Not Take Things Personally
It’s incredibly difficult not to take something personal. Especially when a person is talking about you or doing something else that attacks your character or judgments in any way.
What helps me remember to practice the 2nd agreement is to realize the person attacking me probably has a personal issue that they’ve decided to share with me and this is how they’re communicating it.
